انتخابات ریاست جمهوری در ایران هر چهار سال یکبار برگزار می شود. نامزدهای انتخاباتی که به تایید شورای نگهبان رسیده باشند، می توانند در این انتخابات شرکت نمایند. رئیس جمهور انتخابی بعد از تایید مقام رهبری انجام وظیفه می نماید. در ایران رئیس جمهور بعد از مقام رهبری بزرگترین مقام کشوری را دارد که تمام کارهای اجرایی کشور بر عهده وی می باشد. وی مسئول اجرای سیاست داخلی و خارجی دولت است که طبق قانون اساسی جمهوری اسلامی ایران بر عهده وی نهاده شده است. وظایف وی در سال 1989 با تغییراتی که در قانون اساسی صورت گرفته شد افزایش یافت. قبل از آن
برخی از وظایف ریاست جمهوری بر عهده مقام نخست وزیری بود که بعد از این تغییرات لغو گردید.

Presidential elections in Iran are held every 4 years. Presidential contenders can join to election process just after being affirmed by "Shoraye Negahban". A person elected for president get a status after being approved by the Supreme Religious Leader. President who is a second competent person after the Supreme Religious Leader, supervises all executive power, determines line of foreign and internal policy. Presidential authority has been extended even more by the changes to the constitution made in 1989. If before some responsibilities had been divided with prime minister, after the changes a position of prime minister was canceled and all the authorities was concentrated in president.
