PACE 'Won't Rule Out' Azeri Sanctions A Council of Europe rapporteur for Azerbaijan says sanctions cannot be ruled out if Baku continues to block his fact-finding visit. More '1,200 Political Arrests' In Iran The report by the Human Rights House of Iran (HRHI), which is based outside Iran, says at least 1,256 people -- including students and journalists -- were arrested in the period. More Kazakhs Reject Politics In Kyrgyz Murder Kyrgyz opposition journalist Gennady Pavlyuk was thrown with his arms and legs bound from a high-rise building in Almaty on December 16, 2009. He died in a hospital six days later. More Belarusian Seeks Czech Asylum A former Belarusian presidential candidate who fled the country this week after claiming he was tortured in jail has applied for asylum in the Czech Republic. More Belarus Expels Russian Rights Activist Belarusian authorities today ordered a Russian human rights activist to leave the country after briefly detaining him. More Russia Asks Belarus After Activist Well-known activist Andrei Yurov, who traveled to Minsk this week to assess the human rights situation in Belarus, was detained on March 16. More |
